Pediatric Services

At Words & Motion we offer a variety of services to meet your child’s communication needs.

Articulation (Speech Sound Production)

Is your child having trouble producing certain sounds? While some speech sounds are more difficult to produce and “come in” at an older age, frequently children have difficulty producing the simpler sounds which can make it difficult for them to be understood. An articulation assessment will be performed in order to determine whether or not your child will benefit from skilled articulation therapy.

Receptive & Expressive Language Skills

The first to develop, receptive language is the ability to listen and understand the world around you, including speech. This includes understanding sentences, following directions, understanding a story, or understanding basic concepts. Expressive language includes the ability to express thoughts and ideas. It includes length of sentences, grammar, content of the message and vocabulary.

Pragmatics / Social Skills

Pragmatics are the social language skills we use in our daily interactions. This includes what we say, how we say it and our body language and how we read facial expressions. It also includes our ability to anticipate and judge what is expected in different situations.

Stuttering / Fluency

Stuttering is a speech disorder characterized by repetition of sounds, syllables or words. A person who stutters knows precisely what he/she wants to say but has trouble producing a normal flow of speech. People who stutter can experience anxiety and emotional challenges throughout their lives if they don’t seek professional support.

Tele-health / Tele-therapy

Our clinicians are trained to provide remote therapy through HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) platforms. All that is required on the family's end is an internet connection with appropriate band with. Current research indicates that children who receive remote therapy versus traditional face-to-face sessions achieve similar progress.
